Attorney Martin to Moderate “Finding a Doctor on the MPN” Panel

Attorney Thomas F. Martin is proud to have been selected to moderate a panel at the upcoming California Applicants’ Attorney’s Association convention in San Diego on Saturday, January 28th, Attorney Martin will lead a discussion titled “Finding a Doctor on the MPN: A Statistical Study of Five MPN Lists.”

Attorney Martin was thrilled at the opportunity to lead this productive discussion. “It is an honor and a privilege to help my colleagues help their clients,” he said.

Joining Attorney Martin on the panel are Attorneys Charles Rondeau, Sylvia Joo, and Bita Adham.

The panel is centered on taking a detailed look at five different medical provider network (MPN) lists for their strength and flexibility for workers’ compensation claims. Different medical providers all have different rules, requirements, and processes for dealing with these claims, and some doctors outright refuse to see injured workers.

On this panel, the attorneys will discuss important points, such as the percentage of doctors for each of these major MPNs who will see a patient based on an applicant attorney’s request, the percentage who refuse to see injured workers, and excuses MPN doctors use to justify this refusal. The panel will also discuss the denial of care, a contentious topic that has made many attorneys, insurance companies, and providers come into conflict with each other.

Another topic that will be of interest to attendees pertains to medical providers and physicians who will treat injured workers, and the steps that should be taken to ensure the treatments are authorized with the MPN. Authorization is an important step to ensuring the proper tests and treatments are administered as well as covered by the appropriate insurance companies to reduce the number of expenses a client has out of their own pocket.

The panel is expected to run a little over an hour in length and will provide credit for guests in attendance—1.25 units for MCLE, and 1.25 for Legal Specialization.
